I read this news of parents from Mysore killing their daughter by mixing pesticide in mango juice today and it got me very worried. How can parents kill their own child? Their own flesh and blood! This was not the first time and I am sure this will not be the last either.
The reason that girl was murdered by her own parents was because she was in love. In love with a Dalit boy. How is falling in love a crime? And the punishment is losing your life! Even the rapists do not get that kind of punishment in India!
We have come across a lot of these cases in newspaper and on T.V but we fail to put an end to it. Thinking on this reminded me of the article I read from Dave Adali. He says the most racist country in the world is India. His thoughts:
“I am an African-American in the IT field and I have thus far had the good fortune to live and travel extensively throughout Western and parts of Eastern Europe and many countries in Asia. I have lived or traveled in the UK and most of the EU countries as well as Taiwan, Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia and several other Asian countries including India.
Of all the countries I have been to, India ranks way up there among the most ‘racist’, IMHO. Indians aren’t so much ‘racist’ as they are intolerant. Indians discriminate against fellow citizens to a degree that I have NEVER encountered in ANY other country. Without a doubt, Indians are the most color obsessed people I have ever encountered anywhere in the world. No doubt because of all that saturation advertisements for ‘Fair and Lovely’, ‘Fair and Handsome’ and all manners of skin-whitening creams, lotions, soaps etc. Even if you are 100% Indian, your fellow Indians might still discriminate against you on the basis of the color of your skin, which region of India you come from, what language you speak, your religion, your caste etc, etc.
If you are of obvious African ancestry, including African-American, you can find life really, really tough in India if you are going to be in India for a while. Indians can be such unabashed, in your face racists. In the interest of fairness, I should point out that oftentimes, lighter-skinned Indians despise darker-skinned Indians every bit as much as much as they despise us people of African ancestry. Apart from that, there is also considerable antipathy between North Indians and South Indians.”
I agree with him 100%. Where are you from? What language you speak? What you eat? And your skin color can get you a lot of love or hatred in India.
And as if all this was not enough we have divided ourselves further into castes and the epic North India and South India zones. I mean how does this even matter? Our differences make us unique.
We are like a rainbow. All different colors but together. Let us embrace that. And love is beautiful, it is not a crime. And parents if you stand with your child no matter what, your child will be happy and will have a wonderful life!! Let us stop this discrimination. Let us make this world a better place to live.
